Sims Commends the Efforts of Local Elementary School for National Recognition

CHICAGO – State Rep. Elgie Sims, D-Chicago, is congratulating Edgar Allen Poe Elementary School in his district for their achievement in receiving recognition as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon school based on their academic excellence and performance.

“I am extremely proud of Edgar Allen Poe and all the effort that went into receiving this distinctive award,” Sims said. “I want to commend the staff, students, and parents that all contribute to making this school one of the best learning institutions in our state and our country.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence (Exemplary High Performing Schools) or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups (Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools). Edgar Allen Poe was award for their overall academic excellence and recognized as an exemplary high performing school and will be honored at an awards ceremony held in Washington, DC, and will receive an engraved plaque and program flag with the official seal signifying their status. National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. “The yearlong process to receive this award was not easy but this an example to our parents, staff and most importantly our students that hard work pays off,” Sims said. “I want to congratulate Edgar Allen Poe for their commitment to providing the best educational experience to our students and helping to shape our next generation of leaders.”
