Recently, Governor Rauner for the second time vetoed funding for the Monetary Award Program (MAP) grant program, which provides college tuition assistance to more than 130,000 low-income students throughout Illinois. The students who receive tuition support are scholastic achievers who are working toward accumulating the credentials needed for a good-paying job.

Students, legislators and higher education advocates will rally together against the governor’s clear message that he doesn’t care about qualified students who need help achieving a quality education.

The details of the rally are below:

Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Location: Chicago State University – Student Union Rotunda – 9501 South King Drive, Chicago

Date: Saturday, Feb 27th, 2016

Who: Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, Student Leaders, higher education advocates

What: Legislators, students and community advocates standing together, demanding the General Assembly act on the MAP grant funding override.
