Rep. Sims on WVON discussing the upcoming State of the Black Community Legislative Update Event

Tonight, State Rep. Elgie Sims, who serves as Treasurer of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, participated in a discussion on WVON radio 1690 - AM, with Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frierichs and Illinois State Representative Carol Ammons on the Maze Jackson show to discuss important issues affecting the state of Illinois, the black community and solutions on how to solve the problems facing our state.

"It is critically important for constituents to stay informed regarding their state government, that's why we are pleased to invite residents to come out and discuss issues of importance to the community with the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus. Given the protracted budget impasse the state finds itself facing, it is important to update residents on new legislative ideas and to have their input as we set our legislative agenda for the upcoming session and beyond" Rep. Sims said.

With this forum the Illnois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation intends to:

- Engage in a meaningful discussion about the objectives of the black community; and

- Inform the community of activities of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation and the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus.

The forum, set to be moderated by Cliff Kelly of WVON, will take place Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the 4th Floor Atrium of the Chicago State University Library from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

The event is co-sponsored with the Cook County Bar Association and Chicago State University.

The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 organization.
